MARKET WATCH: Superfractors and Canary Galore

It’s been about a week since 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects has hit the market and we’ve already seen a few notable cards sell.  The most notable (arguably) superfractor auto has hit the market over the weekend and it should be a record setting sale. The non-auto version hit as well, which should be a nice price comparison for comparable players.  I’m not sure why I’m even saying that because there aren’t too many prospects who compare to “The Freak v2.0″.  Baseball America had some pretty strong words to defend their #1 prospect ranking for the Arizona farm system.

“He not only has top-of-the-rotation potential, but his approach is so revolutionary that his success in the majors could cause teams to rethink how they condition and develop young pitchers.”

A surprising seller from the set has been Francisco Lindor, who seems to have a very large following back in Puerto Rico.  The slick fielding former USA shortstop has Cleveland fans salivating over his projection and his market prices are showing the aftermath.  Even his USA stuff is selling well, which is nice to see with a chrome autograph fully on the market.  His superfractor was pulled within the first days of the product release and sold for a pretty penny.

Some other notable are below, which includes two of the better 16U superfractor autos, as well as the too name in the canary non-auto set.

Sneak Peak: 2011 Donruss Elite Extra Edition & Playoff Contenders

It’s a walk-off.  Topps vs. Panini.  The twitter and blog game just got real.

Panini released more pictures of two upcoming products, 2011 Donruss Elite Extra Edition and 2011 Playoff Contenders. It’s great to see that they plan to extend these staple products in the prospecting landscape.  The new designs look…well…interesting to say the least.  I can’t decide if I like the designs, or they are just a bit off.  Team USA Alum Mikie Mahtook is shown below for both sets.

What do you think – YAY or NAY?

Sneak Peak: 2012 Bowman Baseball & Mysterious Product

The people at Topps took to their twitter account yesterday with some info for the upcoming 2012 Bowman Baseball product.  Not only did they ask for the masses to supply them names we’d like to see, but they also showed some sneak peak pictures of select cards.  Below you’ll see some  images that you can make your judgement on….YAY or NAY?

You can also see that they released a picture of a product (or insert???) caled Bowman Black. The Bryce Harper card above just looks super sweet, but also very much like the Topps 60th autographs.  Nice product idea, but one does wonder if they will be condition sensitive.  Could be a nice chase for the grading gurus if they catch on with collectors & prospectors.

When more images hit the internet, we’ll keep updating, so check back daily.

Superfractor Tracker: Ryan Wright and Yoennis Cespedes!

Two of the more attractive and interesting superfractors showed up on the market this week.  The first one features a former USA collegiate player who is flying a bit under the radar.  Not only is Ryan Wright a solid middle infielder defensively (although a move to 2B is likely), but he also has been a producer offensively in his first MILB season.  He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him as a 2012 late season call-up.

The second superfractor is of arguably the most followed international free agent not named Yu Darvish.  Cuban defector Yoennis Cespedes went from best player in his country to internet phenomenon overnight.  We wrote about him and the video last week, but now comes the market hype for his cards.  This card was listed at the right time for the first wave of hyped pricing, but the true money would be when he signs.  He’s likely to be scooped up by a big market team, so if he gets to the Rangers Red Sox, or Yankees….who knows what it could sell for.  Cha-ching!
