If you’re a true USA card fanatic, you’ve undoubtedly seen this card of President George Bush. Often considered one of the holy grails of the USA baseball brand and the mass production era, this card is about as expensive as they come. The fine folks at Huggins & Scott Auctions currently have one for sale, featuring an opening bid of $900. The card is graded a PSA 8, which is pretty amazing considering the condition sensitivity of the 1990 Topps Set.
Are you wondering about where this card came from and why you don’t have one in your monster boxes of 1990′s Topps? Well, they were limited to 100 copies and apparently given directly to President Bush as a gift from the Topps Company. After they hit his hands it’s anybody’s guess how they were distributed.
Via Junk Wax Gems:
The secondary eBay market hasn’t seen a copy for quite some time and the PSA registry must be crazy over this card. I’ve personally seen a handful for sale over the years with no distinct sale price in memory. The BGS population reports show two copies graded…ever. You can view the BGS population report below:
I’m not a member of PSA or SGC to see their reports, so if anyone has that info let me know. If you own the card for your collection, feel free to share it with us!
UPDATE (9/16):
There are only 5 showing in PSA Population Report
(1) PSA 6 – (1) PSA 7 – (2) PSA 8 – (1) PSA 8.5
Essentially, the copy in the auction above is the highest pure grade ever given by PSA (before they added .5 grades). If anyone has SGC population reports, please pass along the info. I will try and update the post as soon I can locate it.
